I've been sick for more than half my life. The story is sadly not original, I had an unexplained illness that was ripping apart my body and no one could figure out what it was. I was told I was just depressed, hormonal, and dramatic.
After 15 years, I was finally diagnosed with lyme disease. However, in that time the infection had ripped apparent my immune system and I now have several auto-immune diseases to contend with on top of the lyme.
So why start a blog?
Honestly, so I have something to talk about at cocktail parties... I'm not kidding. I haven't been able to work for the past few years while in recovery. This shit is getting awkward, so here I am, a girl who's never kept a journal, writing a blog.
During all of the struggles with my health, the adjustments I've had to make to my life, the dreams I've had to give up, I've never lost my sense of adventure. Having the ability to see the world is what keeps me moving forward.
I love to travel... LOVE TO TRAVEL! However, I've had to change the WAY I travel. I have 10 major food allergies/intolerances. Some days I have limited mobility. Some days my fatigue is so bad I can barely get out of bed.
People ask me all the time how I can travel with my restrictions (sometimes it's more like, how dare I travel with my restrictions). The answer is complicated and includes lots of tricks I've learned along the way, which I'm going to share on this blog.
I'm a massive geek and I tend to do a lot of massively geeky stuff, so there will be a fair amount of that kind of stuff on here. I cosplay, go to conventions, and even sometimes travel for my geek fix. I'm just putting it out there now, when in London, go to the Harry Potter movie experience! If you're a Potterhead, just trust me on this.
Since we can't travel all of the time, it's easy forget there is a lot to see and explore in the places we live. I try to find new adventures in my city, Los Angeles, so there may be many LA related posts.
I hope you decide to come on this journey with me, it's definitely going to be an adventure!
